The test stand for rf electron sources at DESY Zeuthen (length about 5m).With a UV laser

(1) (wavelength approx. 253 nm) electrons are released from a photo cathode(2) and accelerated in a rf-cavity(3). The electron beam developed in such a way is formed by magnet coils (3,4) and its properties are measured.

Such a photo injector is developed as an electron source for future linear accelerators and free electron lasers (FEL).
